On 18 December, a group of students mentored by Gugah Nurani Indonesia (GNI) through the Mandalika Child Learning Center (MCLC) performed in front of an audience for the very first time.

Nurturing Children’s Talents at MCLC

MCLC is a CSR initiative by InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), a safe space where children can learn, play, and spend their free time meaningfully. The center was established to help prevent the increasing number of child street vendors in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ), a tourism area where children are particularly vulnerable to child labor. Through this initiative, ITDC and GNI actively engage in child protection efforts.

MCLC serves as a place where children can play, learn, and fulfill their rights. One of its key programs focuses on nurturing children’s interests and talents through local arts performances. Over the past few months, MCLC students have been learning various art forms, from traditional dance to music, until they were finally ready to showcase their talents at the event on 18 December 2025.

A Mother’s Unwavering Support

Audience members from various backgrounds gathered to support the children—parents, friends, and close relatives, especially parents who patiently waited, carrying prayers and hopes for their children.

One of them was Inaq Reni, a mother who stood nervously at the side of the stage, waiting for her child’s turn to perform a dance. Her anxiety slowly turned into pride. Her face could not hide the emotion as she watched her child confidently perform beautifully in front of the audience.

“I feel so proud and deeply moved seeing my child bravely perform in front of so many people,” said Inaq Reni.

In her daily life, Inaq Reni sells goods around Kuta Beach and works as a farmer. Seeing her child shine and feel happy doing what they love fills her with immense pride.
For her, support is a form of unconditional love.

“I will always support whatever activities my child takes part in at MCLC. I hope my child continues to practice diligently and remains committed to their responsibilities as a student.”

She is grateful that her child is part of MCLC, able to light up the stage with a smile and a confident performance. With full support, she encourages her child to continue growing and learning.
