Internships play an important role in supporting what students have learned in school. They serve as the first step toward building a career. Through internships, youth gain real-world experience that helps them prepare for the professional world. This has been proven through the internship and training program by Gugah Nurani Indonesia (GNI), in collaboration with PT Abuba Steak and the South Jakarta Regional Job Training Center (PPKD).

Youth Empowerment Service

To help empower young people, especially alumni of the sponsorship program, GNI runs a program called Youth Empowerment Service. After graduating from school and finishing their sponsorship period, young people receive guidance to help build their careers. The program includes talent and interest development, career planning, training, and internship opportunities with GNI’s partners.

From February 10 to April 30, 2025, eight participants from the Youth Empowerment Service joined an internship program at Abuba Steak. Before the internship, they had completed training at PPKD South Jakarta.

Internship at Abuba Steak

This internship was more than just on-the-job training. It gave the participants a real gateway to future career opportunities. They were able to learn directly from professionals in the field. In addition to gaining experience and improving their skills, they also developed good work ethics, technical knowledge, and resilience in the workplace. This program helped them understand what working life is really like.

Fanrezy: From Intern to Mentor

One of the mentors in the 2025 GNI–Abuba internship program was Fanrezy. He is an alumnus of the same program from 2022. After completing his internship, he was hired as a barista at Abuba. This year, he was excited to return as a trainer and share his experience and skills with the new interns.

Good News After the Internship

Following in Fanrezy’s footsteps, 50% of the 2025 interns were offered jobs after completing the program. Many of them shared how helpful the internship was in preparing them for the workplace, especially in gaining practical knowledge that wasn’t covered during their training at PPKD.

One participant, Muhammad Ilham Ghifari, shared his gratitude via WhatsApp, “This internship was really helpful. I gained income, experience, and the chance to be considered for a full-time job.”
