Gugah Nurani Indonesia Encourages Families to Improve Children's Nutrition Through Local Food at Good Nutrition Day

Jakarta, February 22, 2025 - In celebration of National Nutrition Day, Gugah Nurani Indonesia held the Good Nutrition Day event. This charity event aimed to donate all proceeds from ticket sales towards improving the nutrition of children in Indonesia.
The event was successfully held at Taman Ismail Marzuki, in the Trisno Sumardjo Building, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM WIB. More than 126 participants attended the event, with the majority being mothers, fathers, and children. There were also young couples preparing for effective parenting.

The theme of Good Nutrition Day was the Utilization of Local Food for Children. The event consisted of two sessions. The first session, Nutrition Talk, featured Dr. Shane Tutty Cornish, CBS, IBCLC, a doctor and educator on complementary feeding (MPASI).
The session focused on how to deal with children who refuse to eat (GTM) using local food. Dr. Shane Tutty Cornish shared information about the nutritional richness of local food, how to make local food visually appealing and enjoyable for children, as well as tips and tricks for dealing with children who refuse to eat.
Additionally, the session included material on Food Chaining, a method for changing a child's eating habits from unhealthy to healthy foods. The Nutrition Talk session was interactive, with mothers enthusiastically asking questions and actively taking notes.
"Today's event was really fun, and I'm happy to see the enthusiasm of the parents. There were so many of them—it's not just the mothers, but the fathers as well, actively asking questions and taking notes. I hope all the knowledge shared today can be applied at home to help solve children's eating problems," said Dr. Shane after the session.

The second session featured a Tempe Making Workshop led by Jessica Halim, Co-Founder of Demi Bumi. During the workshop, Jessica shared her experience of starting a garden to fulfill her kitchen needs and how her garden now supports other living creatures.
Jessica also explained how to make tempe without plastic or waste, and how to implement sustainable living by using water from washing soybeans to water the plants.
After the explanation, participants were invited to practice making tempe. The beans used in making the tempe were not the typical white soybeans, but black soybeans and red beans, which were naturally colored with butterfly pea flowers and dragon fruit.
In this tempe-making activity, parents learned how to creatively prepare tempe to make it more appealing to children. Children were also invited to participate in the process, as involving them can increase their enthusiasm for eating.
"It's amazing to see not just parents, but entire families with children and even babies participating. I really support workshops like this because they can change a family's mindset to improve the nutrition of Indonesian children. The education about children's nutrition in Indonesia is still lacking," Jessica shared.

Through this event, Gugah Nurani Indonesia hopes participants gain valuable knowledge, especially about the various local food options that are rich in nutrients and more affordable.
The event also featured booths with products from local businesses supported by Gugah Nurani Indonesia, such as red rice from local farmers in Bogor, fish bone chips, and herbal drinks from Mbok Daya—a women empowerment-based business group.
By using local food, participants not only get more affordable options but also help improve the livelihood of small businesses. The more people realize this, the bigger the positive impact that can be created.
"Today, I learned tips and tricks on how to change our child's eating habits from unhealthy to healthy foods using food chaining," said Gita Malasari.
"I came with my 9-year-old child to teach him how tempe is made so he understands that raw tempe can be eaten. This event is a great way to introduce healthy food, healthy living, and sustainable life to our children. I'm really impressed with the two speakers; their material was substantial," Gita continued.
Rifa Alfiyani, another participant, also shared her positive response: "I'm so happy I could learn together with my child and husband."
In Good Nutrition Day, Gugah Nurani Indonesia collaborated with Demi Bumi and Jak Pro. The event was also sponsored by children's healthy snack POIPOI, healthy noodles for kids Ohana Mie, Cleo Pure Water, SHP Toys, and Wardah.
Through Good Nutrition Day, Gugah Nurani Indonesia successfully raised a donation of IDR 8,438,684 from ticket sales. All the collected donations will be distributed to improve the nutrition of children in Indonesia. Gugah Nurani Indonesia hopes that more people will be aware of the importance of children's nutrition in Indonesia, so that we can create an even bigger impact together in the future.
