After the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, many people, especially children, were affected. From November 16th to 22nd, Gugah Nurani Indonesia was present to help the community adapt during their displacement.
"I miss home, I want to play at home again," "I miss my pet dog," "I miss school and playing with my friends on the school field," said some of the children when asked about their feelings.
"No one feeds my dog at home," "The evacuation center doesn't feel like home," other children replied.
However, now their moods have improved. The children have started to feel happy because they are getting attention from kind people. The arrival of volunteers and the GNI ER team who invited them to play made them feel morally supported, so they felt encouraged again.
"I'm happy, there are many older siblings who come to entertain and play with us," said Dea, a 5th-grade elementary school student.
In addition to sharing togetherness through psychosocial support, GNI also distributed educational kits or aid in the form of school supplies for affected children. This activity aims to increase children's enthusiasm and motivation to learn while displaced.
On November 23rd, 2024, GNI distributed educational kits to 5 affected evacuation centers. The five evacuation centers are Konga, Bokang Church Field, Tenawahang, SDI Bokang, and Kobasoma.
The educational kits distributed by GNI include notebooks, drawing books, pencils, pens, and school bags. A total of around 747 children received these educational kits.
A total of 350 family kits were distributed by GNI on November 24th, 2024.
