Emergency Response to the Earthquake in Bandung Regency: Logistics Support for Affected Communities

Earthquake in Bandung Regency

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale struck Bandung Regency and its surrounding areas. The earthquake occurred at 9:41 AM local time, just as residents were starting their daily activities. According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), dozens of villages were affected by this earthquake.

Approximately 30 villages across 8 districts in Bandung Regency were affected by the earthquake. This disaster not only caused damage to homes but also disrupted daily activities such as the local economy, children's education, and other aspects of everyday life.

Logistics Support Distribution

From September 30 to October 2, 2024, Yayasan Gugah Nurani Indonesia (GNI) carried out emergency response efforts as part of its commitment to actively support the community. GNI also offered trauma healing and psychosocial support to children affected by the earthquake.

The activities included distributing relief supplies, such as family kits, in Cikembang Village and Tarumajaya Village, Bandung Regency. The family kits included blankets and hygiene kit.

GNI's Emergency Response Activities

On the first day, the Gugah Nurani Indonesia Foundation distributed family kits in Tarumajaya Village, particularly in RW 09 and RW 10. In RW 09, there are approximately 60 houses affected, 15 of which were severely damaged and uninhabitable. This forced residents to evacuate to temporary shelters for several days.

On the second day, the distribution of family kits took place in Cikembang Village, where around 35 houses were affected. Some residents have started returning home and get back to their daily routines. On the final day, family kits were further distributed to Tarumajaya Village, which had not yet received assistance.

Through this initiative, GNI successfully distributed a total of 300 family kits to affected families. GNI hopes that the assistance provided can alleviate the burden on the community and offer emotional support as well.
